Processing is an open source arts programming language and platform for creating interactive software. Arduino is an open source hardware platform that makes the world of microcontrollers and electronics more accessible that has been developed alongside Processing. The two work well together which means you can create software that interacts with the physical world or sensors that control software running on a computer!
This workshop will give an introduction to working with Processing and Arduino. No previous programming experience with electronics is needed.
Dates: Wednesday evenings 29 August, 5 and 12 September, 7pm-9:30pm at SPACE in Hackney, London.
Level: No experience necessary.

Course Structure
Evening 1: Basics of Processing
- Shapes and colour
- Interactions with the mouse and keyboard
- Displaying and manipulating images
Evening 2: Basics of Arduino
- Writing and uploading code to the Arduino
- Reading from analogue and digital sensors like knobs and buttons
- Controlling actuators like LEDs and speakers
Evening 3: Getting Processing and Arduino to Talk to Each Other
- Using serial communication
- Parsing strings
- How to structure data
