Codasign is an interactive arts and technology studio founded by Becky Stewart and Adam Stark in 2011. Adam and Becky are experts in interactive, creative media specializing in audio signal processing and intelligent music systems.
What We Do
- develop software for creative applications
- build interactive systems that bridge real and virtual worlds
- design intelligent algorithms for audio and video
- design and deliver workshops about interactive media, see our Workshop and Course Portfolio for examples of what we can offer
We Work With
- artists and musicians
- designers
- architects
- academics
- entrepreneurs
- public engagement projects
We have used signal processing to:
- Create interactive installations that track people using web cams - decibel151 and Giant Instrument
- Create virtual worlds using spatial audio - decibel151
- Interact with the physical world using sensors such as accelerometers - Atmospheric Railway and Tilly Automatic
- Create sounds in response to people breaking beams of light - Giant Instrument
- Follow the notes and beat of music as it's being played - Beat Synchronous Sequencer
- Detect when musical things happen like when notes are played or different sounds are made onset - Atmospheric Railway
About Us
Codasign was founded by Dr. Becky Stewart and Dr. Adam Stark in 2011. Originating from the Centre for Digital Music at Queen Mary, University of London, we are experts in the emerging fields of interaction in musical performance, 3D audio and multimedia art installations.
Dr. Becky Stewart is an expert in 3D audio and interaction in musical systems. She has had collaborative interactive work installed at SIGGRAPH 2009 in New Orleans, USA and also has experience teaching at Queen Mary, MzTEK and the ITP Camp at New York University. Before completing her PhD in acoustics, spatial audio and interfaces for music search with the Centre for Digital Music, she completed an MSc in music technology at the University of York and a BMus in music engineering technology and computer science at the University of Miami.
Dr. Adam Stark is a specialist in interactive technology and signal processing. He has written a PhD on using intelligent digital technologies to create new forms of interaction in live music performances and art installations, completed at the Centre for Digital Music at Queen Mary, University of London. He also has an MSc in music signal processing from Queen Mary and a bachelors degree in computer science from Royal Holloway, University of London. He has exhibited work at the National Portrait Gallery, the Shunt Lounge, Novas CUC in Liverpool and the De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill. He is also a performing musician, using interactive technology as part of a six-piece instrumental band.
