Workshop: Making Interactive Sound

Max 6, Arduino and Processing logosA new workshop on interactive sound, 11am-5pm on 26 February and 4, 11, 18 March at SPACE in Hackney, London.

This course will show you how to interface sound, visuals and real-wold physical movements and gestures to create interactive multimedia installations, tools for live music performance or just new ways to make and interact with sound. You can "pick 'n' mix" from the different days or sign up for all four at a discounted rate.

Day 1 (26 Feb) will introduce the interactive music environment Max/MSP.
Day 2 (4 Mar) will introduce the programming language and environment Processing.
Day 3 (11 Mar) will cover hardware sensors along with the microcontroller environment Arduino.
Day 4 (18 Mar) will demonstrate how these tools can be made to communicate to create a sonic, visual interactive system that responds to real-world movements and gestures.

Requirements: You will need a laptop though we can provide a limited number of machines upon request. Day 4 will require an Arduino and sensors.

Sign up for all 4 days at a discount rate: £190 (£152 conc.)

Workshop: Arduino and Sound Synthesis

This 4 day course will go over the basics of digital audio and how to work with basic electronics to generate and manipulate it without requiring audio playback through a computer. We will use the Arduino platform to control the playback and recoding of audio and also to generate audio. We will cover digital-to-analogue audio conversion, wavetable synthesis, playing audio samples and will build the circuits needed to generate audio controlled by the Arduino microcontroller including amplifying audio.

Dates: 7,14, 21, 28 March, 7pm-9:30pm at SPACE in Hackney, London.

Level: Beginner, though previous experience with Arduino will be useful but not necessary.

Price: £150 (£120 conc.) (this includes all hardware to be taken home afterwards)

Workshop: Introduction to Processing

Processing is a creative programming language and environment for people who want to work with images, animations, and interactions. It is the tool of choice of many artists and designers working in the digital domain. This 4-evening course will teach the fundamentals of the Processing environment including how to create interactive pieces involving images, graphics and sound.

Dates: 12, 19, 26 January and 2 February, 7pm-9:30pm at SPACE in Hackney, London.

Level: Beginner
Requirements: 1 computer with Processing (available free) per attendee

Workshop: Sound and Arduino

Speaker and arduino An introduction to digital audio and sound synthesis techniques for beginners. This one day workshop will cover the basic concepts needed to work with digital audio before exploring sound creation with the Arduino. Attendees will learn about different types of sound synthesis including pulse width modulation (PWM).
